For administrative purposes our school comprises of 3 sections:
- Junior School Year 7/8
- Middle School Year 9/10
- Senior School Year 11/12
Within the curriculum there are 3 main components:
- Academic
- Personal - independence and living skills
- Social - protective behaviours
Protective behaviours cover the areas of:
- Cyber safety
- Relationships - including anti-bullying and sexuality education
- Drug education
- Traffic education - including driver education
The Junior School is the entry to Heatherwood for the majority of students. In accordance with the schools vision and policies of the Department of Education and Training, the curriculum focus is on providing and developing foundations for English, Maths, Science, Humanities and the Arts.
The Middle School is the introductory point for students to the ‘world of work’ and discovery of future pathways. Students continue to build on their learning foundations.
The final 2 years are completed in Senior Transition. Students have the opportunity to complete their 'Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC)'. Students are also able to gain certificates in:
- Sport and Recreation
- Applied Digital Technology
- Agri-food Operations (Horticulture)
- Hospitality (Kitchen Operations)
- Employment Pathways
- Retail Services
- Active Volunteering
Transition and Pathways for Heatherwood students during their Senior years is supported through work placement options, Career Action plans, and a Transition Action Plan that assists parents to investigate post school options.
POST SCHOOL OPTIONS
Heatherwood is host to a 'Post School Options Expo' every three years. Exhibitors at the Expo include TAFE Colleges, Disability Employment Services, Supported Employment Providers and Day Services. The Expo provides up-to-date information for parents, students, teachers and support staff.
